Disability is usually conceptualised in terms of the presence of an impairment. But, what is an impairment? Is impairment a neutral concept? No. Just like disability, impairment is a social construct. So, what is the best way to conceptualise disability? Seeing impairment in terms of a continuum of abilities could be the solution to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with disabilities.
